Pennies for Patients
Dear Parents,
Our school has started Pennies for Patients and joins 29,000 schools nationwide in the fight against blood cancer. For the next few weeks until Friday April 25th, we will help people who are sick with blood cancers like leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. All you have to do is collect coins and other donations and put them in your classroom collection box. Last year our school raised approximately $2000 and we are looking to reach or exceed that donation. Please help us in this very worthy cause.
Thank you from the Imagine Indigo Ranch Staff!

Dicken's Village
The next novel our class will be reading is "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. While we dive into the Christmas past, present and future, I think it would be insightful and fun for our class to build a Dickens village of our own! We will build the village out of old cereal boxes. I will go over this extensively in class so the kids will know what is expected of them.
Here's what your child needs to bring in:
1 decorated cereal box
*and any other tiny items that would go with the village. (It needs to be pertinent)
Instructions:
tape the ends of the cereal box closed.
Cover with brown paper
Decorate box with markers/crayons etc. to look like an old English building
Thanks!

Welcome Back!! 2013-2014
Well, we have already completed our first week of school, and I'm already in love with each one of my students!
Despite feeling under the weather and having to miss two days of being with my class, I enjoyed getting to know everyone and getting things underway.
This first week of school was mainly about procedures, routines, getting to know each other, and finding out where all of my students are academically. I collected writing samples, conducted reading assessments, dove into discussions on our core virtue Respect and started Saxon, Riggs Phonograms and history.
I am eager to start next week fully recovered and ready for new week accomplishments!
Thank you for being such wonderful parents and guardians and partnering with me in your child's educational journey in 2nd grade!

Forgotten Suitcase!!
A note from John Stanton:
A family provided a suitcase as a period-related prop during Immigration day. Relatively modern, black and gray, the size of a “carry on.” The suitcase is available for pick up in the main office.

Hope Everyone Had a Great Thanksgiving!!
On December 20th all of 2nd grade will be having our Immigration Celebration Day. Students will be encouraged to wear costumes from their family's heritage or a country of their choosing. I wanted to give the head's up early for parents to be thinking or planning a costume for their child. The second grade team is planning a day where students can re-live the life of an immigrant traveling to America in the 1800's and early 1900's.
Our Christmas Party will be on December 21st. Mrs. Bennight will be sending more information on that in a week or two through e-mail.
Fall Party This Friday!!!
Our Fall Party is Friday, November 16th from 11:25 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Please check your email if you volunteered to help. We'll eat in the classroom, so no need to send a lunch. Hope to see you there!

There are students being dropped off at the school before 8am in the mornings, and we need to let parents know that those students are not under supervision. Supervision of students by Imagine staff begins at 8am sharp, then school begins at 8:15. Please be aware of students safety, especially with recent events in Arvada. Dropping off students at 7:45am in NOT okay.
Don't forget about Trunk-or-Treat this Saturday from 2-4pm. The Book Fair also begins! We want to win a pizza party for our class, so please bring as many bags of candy as possible and clearly label them with "Mrs. Lee". Then drop them off at the front office in the decorated box. The class with the most candy brought between this Monday and Thursday will win the Pizza Party!
Also, if you would like to donate prize items for our treasure box, Mardel has great treasures. You can even log the amount of money the prizes cost for volunteer hours! Every 10 dollars is an hour of volunteering!

Details:
Please send your student to school in tennis shoes. They may want a water bottle - please put their name on it. Jackets, sweaters, etc. are recommended if the weather turns cold.
Watch your email for additional information from Mrs. Day this week.
Riggs Spelling Lists Begins!
Riggs Spelling Dictation has begun this week! We will be trying to do all of Riggs exclusively at school, unless I see that a child needs more practice at home. After new words are introduced each day, children will be writing each word five times. This is recommended by the Riggs curriculum. When a child does not finish writing each new word five times, the rest will be left for homework. Spelling lists consisting of 5-10 words, will be practiced in class for five days and tested on the sixth day. During the Practice Days, we will have practice tests. You can find the list of spelling test words under the "Riggs" tab.
"Room Parent"
Would anyone like to volunteer to serve as the “Room Parent” for my 2nd Grade Class? As you know, the duties resolve around helping with social events such as Holiday Parties, helping organize chaperones for field trips, and helping me with other events involving the parents of this class only.
Feel free to email me if you are interested!

WANTED!
I am working on creating a class treasure chest to be used for positive behavior reinforcement. However, I need your help. If you happen to have any stickers, small toys, pencils, bookmarks, etc. that you no longer need, I would love to fill our treasure chest with them! I know the children will enjoy the challenge of working towards a trip to the "treasure" box!
Geography Project
Thank you, parents, for all the hard work you put in to help this project happen! I was so excited to see the students using their Geography vocabulary as they created their land formations!
